The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has declared the Village Head of Ine Eyoabasi Fishing Village wanted after uncovering his alleged involvement in a militant and piracy network operating across the state’s coastal areas.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing at the State Headquarters, Uyo, where he highlighted major security breakthroughs recorded in recent weeks.

According to the CP, the Command, in collaboration with Marine Hunters, on November 3 intercepted and arrested one Samuel Geofrey (27), a suspected militant from Bayelsa State.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that his rifle was being kept by one Kingdom Bane, the Village Head of Ine Eyoabasi Fishing Village.

“Upon sighting our operatives, the Village Head fled. However, a search of his residence led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from sea travelers,” the Commissioner stated.

Recovered exhibits include multiple marine engines (40HP, 15HP, and 8HP), power heads, gearboxes, generators, a deep freezer, toilet fittings, a sewing machine, and several household items.

Also found was a bag containing personal belongings and identification of one Chibuike Vincent Awah of Onitsha, Anambra State.

While the suspect, Geofrey, is in custody, CP Azare assured that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing Village Head, emphasizing that no criminal, regardless of status, would escape justice.

“This operation demonstrates our resolve to dismantle criminal networks from the creeks of Mbo to the heart of Uyo. We will pursue every suspect until they face the law,” he affirmed.

The police boss also informed that following the ban on unlawful masquerade processions, one Solomon Edem ‘m’, of Midim Waterside, Abak LGA, who specialized in disguising as a masquerade to rob his victims, was arrested.

According to him “Items recovered from the suspect include, a machete, two masquerade masks, charms, and an animal skull. The suspect has been charged to court.

“In another case, Uwem Umanah ‘m’ (45yrs), leader of the “Ekpo” masquerade cult, and David Michael ‘m’ (34yrs), both of Ekpenyong Ikot Isang Village, were arrested and charged for illegal assembly, armed blockage of a public highway, and extortion.”

The Police Commissioner further announced several other achievements, including:

Neutralization of an illegal gun manufacturing factory at Ekiti Itam Village, Itu LGA, leading to the arrest of two suspects and recovery of locally made firearms and production tools.

Arrest of suspected phone and tricycle thieves found in possession of over 70 stolen mobile phones and three tricycles.

Apprehension of cult leaders involved in unlawful masquerade processions, armed blockage of highways, and extortion.

Dismantling of robbery syndicates, including motorcycle snatchers operating between Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.

Recovery of ammunition and cartridges following intelligence from vigilant citizens.

CP Azare commended the Command’s operatives for their professionalism and dedication, while appreciating residents for their continued support.

He urged anyone whose phones or properties were stolen to report to the Command for identification and possible recovery.

“We are committed to ensuring that Akwa Ibom remains one of the safest states in Nigeria. Criminals must know there is no hiding place,” he said.

The Police Boss reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration, stressing that the fight against crime requires continued cooperation from all citizens.
