Police Arrest Man For Stealing Neighbour’s Car In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Jackson Abraham, for allegedly stealing his neighbour’s car in Lagos.

The arrest was made by operatives of the Ebute Ero Police Division during a routine surveillance patrol, where officers intercepted the suspect with a Mitsubishi Space vehicle.

The suspicious behaviour of the suspect reportedly prompted the officers to stop and question him.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, a preliminary investigation revealed that the car had been unlawfully removed from a park in Ogun State without the knowledge or consent of the rightful owner.

It was later discovered that both the suspect and the vehicle owner live at the same address.

“The arrest and recovery occurred when patrol officers, acting on reasonable suspicion, intercepted the suspect with a Mitsubishi Space vehicle, ash in colour.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect removed the vehicle from a park in Ogun State without the consent of the rightful owner, who coincidentally resides at the same address as the suspect. The vehicle was promptly recovered intact and has since been taken to the station,” the statement read.

The owner, who had earlier reported the vehicle missing in Ogun State, has been contacted and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

The statement confirmed that arrangements are being made to transfer the suspect and the recovered vehicle to the Ogun State Police Command, where the case was originally reported.

“The rightful owner, who had earlier reported the vehicle missing in Ogun State, has since been contacted and is fully cooperating with ongoing investigations.

“Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody as preparations are underway to transfer both the suspect and the recovered vehicle to the Ogun State Police Command, where the case was originally reported and is currently under investigation,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling vehicle theft and ensuring public safety in the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
