Police Arrest Man For Attempt To Traffic Girls To Libya

An alleged child trafficker identified as Victor Eyop has been taken into custody by the Cross River State Police Command on suspicion of trafficking girls from Nigeria to Libya.
At a press conference in Calabar on Monday, the Cross River Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, affirmed that a man named Mr. Chidi Samuel in Calabar reported a human trafficking complaint against the suspect on November 9.
Samuel reported that the victim, Ms. Deborah Nyong, was recruited by the suspect and his wife, Mrs. Esther Eyop.
“They also recruited two others, Ms Anita Lawrence, 25, and Ms Mabel Tom, 16, for human trafficking to Libya after they were tested for the Human Immune Virus, HIV, and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, STIs.
“After the test, the suspect took them to his house and the next day gave them a substance they were to mix in their bath water for cleansing before embarking on the journey.
“On November 12, the suspect and his wife drove the girls to Bogobiri Street in Calabar, where they booked tickets and transported them to Kaduna with arrangements with one Hajiya (names unknown) to receive the girls in Kaduna,” he said.
The police commissioner added that a taxi driver was sent to pick up the girls and drive them to Katsina, but the car broke down on the way there.
The victims understood they were being trafficked at this time, according to Grimah, and began reaching out for assistance. Samuel, who opted to assist them, sent them money via a POS operator along the route.
He reported that on November 15, the victims used that money to get into a taxi and travel back to Calabar through Kaduna.
The police commissioner stated that after the investigation is concluded, the suspect will face charges in court.
