Police Arrest 95 Suspected Cultists In Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 95 suspected cultists during a series of coordinated raids targeting known cult hideouts.

The Command on Friday disclosed that the ongoing operation, which began on April 28, apprehended members of three major cult groups notorious for violent crimes.

Of the suspects arrested, 33 are believed to be affiliated with the Malphites Confraternity, 34 are linked to the Aye (Black Axe) Confraternity, and 28 are associated with the Eiye Confraternity.

Items recovered during the operation include one single-barrel shotgun with four live cartridges and two Malphite-branded caps.

The police stated that the suspects are facing multiple felony charges, including cult-related murders and violent attacks that have occurred in recent weeks.

The Command assured the public that the crackdown would continue until all criminal elements were rooted out, warning that there would be no haven for cultists and their sponsors in the state.

Meanwhile, the Command has debunked a reported herdsmen scare in Fugar, Etsakor Central Local Government Area of the state.

The rebuttal followed reports of a farmer in Odame Ebirra settlement who allegedly spotted two herdsmen and fled in panic.

His actions reportedly caused fear among residents, prompting a brief commotion as people fled the area.

The command noted that a probe into the incident revealed that the herdsmen neither posed a threat nor had a confrontation with farmers.

It further described the report as a false alarm with no record of attack, injuries, or threat to lives.

The command urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could incite panic.
