Plateau govt commence biometric verification, capture for civil servants, pensioners

Plateau State Government has launched a comprehensive verification and biometric capture exercise for all civil servants and pensioners across the state, in a bid to clean up its payroll, enhance accountability, and improve workforce efficiency.

The initiative, which is ongoing is being conducted by the Office of the state Head of the Civil Service in collaboration with the Plateau State ICT Development Agency (PICTDA).

Announcing the exercise, the Plateau Head of the Civil Service, Mr. Stephen Pam Gadong, said the move was necessary to ascertain the actual number of staff on the state’s payroll and the true figure of civil servants and pensioners.

“This exercise will promote accountability and transparency within the system,” Gadong stated.

He emphasized that the deployment of biometric devices to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) aims to strengthen staff attendance monitoring.

According to him, the user-friendly devices will allow civil servants to simply log in and log out, enabling the government to identify punctual workers and those absent from duty without excuse.

Gadong further noted that the biometric technology will minimize the frequency of manual verification exercises, as staff details will be stored in a central database.

This will also facilitate tracking when an employee exits service.

The Director General of PICTDA, Engr. Datong Dominic Gwaman, expressed confidence in the deployed technology, clarifying that while his agency provides the technical support, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service remains the custodian of all human resource records in the state.

“PICTDA’s role is to supply the appropriate technology for the verification and ongoing monitoring of staff attendance, including identifying punctual and absent workers,” Gwaman said.

He added that biometric devices will be installed across all MDAs, with each device linked to a central server for real-time reporting.

This setup will allow the Head of Service to monitor attendance statewide, including at the local government level, at the close of each working day.

Gwaman urged civil servants to expect enhanced oversight and called for greater commitment and dedication to duties, assuring that the government would reward diligent officers.
