A 27-year-old motorcyclist, Ahmed Owolabi, has survived an attack by his passenger, Sherif Oyeniyi, while in motion at Orange Estate, Arepo, Ogun State.

The incident which happened at 4:15 PM on January 11, 2025, was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CPS Omolola Odutola.

According to the statement, Oyeniyi inflicted razor blade cuts on Owolabi’s neck, which left him bleeding profusely.

Alani Muritala, a resident of Shefu Elede in Ibafo, raised the alarm and reported the incident to the Warewa Divisional Police.

The police, however, intervened and rescued Owolabi and transported him to the hospital for medical attention.

“11/01/2025. The Divisional Police Officer of Warewa has successfully rescued Ahmed Owolabi from bleeding to death, who until now did not provoke his passenger nor was able to say the reason behind such callousness to have resulted in such a deep cut,” the statement read.

“On January 11, 2025, at about 4:15 PM, Alani Muritala, a resident of Shefu Elede Ibafo, came to the police station to report that his brother, Ahmed Owolabi, a 27-year-old motorcyclist from Onimane Magada Ibafo, had been injured by Sherif Oyeniyi, who lives at 44 Association Road, Orange Estate, Voera, Arepo, Ogun State.

“The complainant stated that while Ahmed a commercial motorcyclist was conveying Sherif to his destination, in Arepo and nearing Sherif’s residence at Orange Estate, Sherif attacked him with a razor blade, inflicting severe deep cuts on his neck in two separate locations.

“The Divisional Police Officer when alerted quickly transported the victim to a hospital for medical attention, and the suspect has been taken into custody for questioning,” the statement read

The command’s PRO, said Oyeniyi, who resides at 44 Association Road, Orange Estate, was apprehended at the scene, and during interrogation, he confessed to visiting a voodoo doctor before the attack but denied being instructed to offer a blood sacrifice, while blaming his actions to “the devil’s handiwork.”

The statement also noted that Oyeniyi showed no remourse for his actions, which is under investigation.

“Notably, the suspect displayed no remorse for his actions, but muttered he had earlier visited a seer otherwise known as a voodoo doctor.

“He was interrogated if the doctored required blood token or initiation, he replied by saying “it was the devil’s handiwork.

“The Divisional Crime Branch is conducting an investigation and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed,” the statement added.
