A total of 9,389 candidates, representing 39 percent, scored 50 percent and above in the 2025 National Common Entrance Examinations into Federal Technical Colleges across the country.
DAILY POST reports that the examination was conducted by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, on June 14, 2025.
Announcing the release of the results on Wednesday, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Mohammed Aminu Mohammed stated that out of the 29,260 candidates who registered, 24,074 sat for the exam.
He noted that the candidates wrote the examination in 203 centers nationwide, comprising 32 Federal and 171 State Technical Colleges.
Dr Mohammed further disclosed that 5,186 candidates representing 17.72 percent were absent from the examination.
He added that 316 candidates, representing 1.31 percent, scored 70 percent and above, 14,685 candidates, 61 percent, scored below 50 percent while eight candidates, representing 0.03 percent, achieved the highest performance category.
The registrar highlighted a significant increase in enrollment for 2025 of 29,260 candidates registered, which is an increase of 287.76 percent compared to the 7,546 candidates in 2024.
He noted that of the 2025 that enrolled ,16,206 were male, 67.32 percent, while 7,868 were female, 32.68 percent compared to 2024 which was 5,197 males , 68.87 percent, and 2,349 females, 31.13 percent.
Mohammed attributed the increase in enrollment to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET, initiative introduced by the federal government to promote vocational skills in the education sector.
He explained that candidates enrolled in various trades, including 17 engineering trades, seven construction trades, eight miscellaneous trades, and four business trades.
In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Morufu Alausa, was represented by Mrs Muibat. A. Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education in the Federal Ministry of Education, affirmed that the government’s free tuition initiative for students in Federal Technical Colleges is enhancing public acceptance of TVET.
He urged the colleges to offer well-structured and targeted programmes focused on skills acquisition, emphasizing the importance of proper assessment and certification in meeting government expectations and public needs.
“To expand access to technical education, the ministry has established two new Federal Technical Colleges in Enugu and Plateau States, set to begin academic activities in the 2026/2027 academic session.
“This will increase the number of FTCs to 34, with plans for three additional colleges already underway,” he added.
