Over 160 Arrested In Abia Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise
The Aba North Environmental Sanitation Team apprehended over 160 offenders early this morning at Brass Junction in Aba North Local Government Area during the monthly sanitation exercise in Abia State.
The operation, which commenced at 7:00 AM on Saturday, targeted individuals and vehicle owners who violated the sanitation mandate in Abia. Several offenders were seen pleading with the enforcement team as it became clear that lax enforcement was no longer tolerated.
Many of the violators attributed their actions to ignorance or indifference, while those apprehended were promptly taken to the mobile court for prosecution.
The enforcement team was led by Hon. Christian Ogbuisi, Deputy Chairman of Aba North LGA and Chairman of the Environmental/Community Development Committee. Accompanying him were the committee’s secretary, Mr Awa Nmaju, and a robust security team comprising officers from the Nigerian Police Force (Eziama Division), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other agencies. Members of the press and local observers were also present to document the event.
The deputy chairman, Christian Ogbuisi noted that the operation is part of their commitment to restoring environmental discipline and ensuring that the monthly sanitation exercise achieves its purpose.
“The days of neglect and nonchalance toward sanitation laws have come to an end. This administration is dedicated to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more organised environment for residents of Abia State,” Ogbuisi said.
He noted that the operation serves as a warning to potential defaulters in subsequent exercises, reiterating the seriousness of the sanitation program in Aba North and Abia state as a whole.
