Police in Osun State have recovered the body of a young woman, identified only as Halimat.
The body, DAILY POST gathered, was recovered in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo, the state capital, on Monday.
According to the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the corpse was found behind a mosque, alongside a note suspected to be a suicide message.
Ojelabi said, “The lifeless body was found at the back of a mosque in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo. Police operatives that were deployed to the scene smelt odour of Sniper.”
He explained that the odour of the poisonous substance, often linked with suicide cases in Nigeria, raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the death.
“Also, something like a suicide note was found near the body. So, with all that, there was a suspicion that the deceased probably took her life,” he added.
Ojelabi clarified that the body showed no visible signs of violence and that police have begun investigations to determine the full details behind the incident.
“I must also say that there were no marks of violence on the deceased when it was recovered by the police,” he noted.
He further disclosed that the police had been able to trace a relation of the deceased, who has since provided valuable information to assist with the ongoing investigation.
“During investigation, a relation of the deceased was found by the police, and he volunteered many pieces of information about her, which is helping us,” Ojelabi said.
The police spokesperson assured that the Command is committed to uncovering the facts surrounding the case and will continue to follow all leads related to the incident.
