Tragedy struck at a hotel along Community Road, Abule-Ado, Lagos State, on Saturday night when a DJ was shot dead by a group of armed men suspected to be cultists.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Victor Dickson, was performing on stage around 9:30 p.m. when the assailants stormed the venue, shot him, and inflicted machete cuts before fleeing the scene.

Police operatives responded swiftly and pursued the attackers as they escaped toward Festac. With the help of local vigilantes, one of the suspects, 35-year-old Christian Chukwudi, also known as “Marshall General,” was apprehended while attempting to flee.

A police report seen by THE WHISTLER on Sunday described him as a notorious robber and cultist who has been terrorizing the area.

A locally made shotgun with one live cartridge was recovered from the suspect, while another live cartridge was found at the crime scene.

Dickson was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. His body has been deposited at the General Hospital, Yaba Morgue.

Police confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate Chukwudi is a leading member of a cult group.

“Some group of boys stormed a hotel along Community Road, Abule-Ado, shot the DJ on stage, and inflicted machete cuts on him. Police operatives responded to the scene (and) gave the assailants (a) hot pursuit as they escaped into Festac,” the report shared by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, read.

“One of the assailants, Christian Chukwudi, a.k.a Marshall General, age 35 years, a notorious robber/cultist who has been terrorizing My AOR, was arrested with the assistance of local vigilantes in Festac while escaping. A locally fabricated shotgun with one live cartridge was recovered from him. One live cartridge was also recovered at the hotel.

“Preliminary investigation revealed him to be a leading member of a cult group. The injured victim, Victor Dickson ‘m’ aged 32 years, later died at the hospital. Photograph of (the) corpse taken, corpse moved and deposited at General Hospital, Yaba Morgue,” it added.

The suspect, along with the recovered firearm, will be transferred to the appropriate unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
