Omo Ibile Igbomina urges Gov. AbdulRazaq to present appointment letter to Ganmo monarch

By Demola Akinyemi, Ilorin

ILORIN — The socio-cultural group, Omo Ibile Igbomina, has appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State to complete the formal appointment of the Oluganna of Ganmo in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba Abdulyekeen Olukayode Kolawole, nearly seven years after his selection.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday, the National President of the group, Chief Bisi Fakayode, said the monarch’s predecessor, Oba Abdullahi Atanda Kolawole, passed away in September 2019, and the state government has yet to present the official letter of appointment and staff of office to the duly selected successor.

Fakayode emphasized that the delay is unprecedented, noting that former Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed had promptly presented a staff of office to a late Oluganna following Supreme Court approval, in adherence to constitutional and legal requirements.

He stated, “Ganmo is an Igbomina land, and her interest affects all Igbomina. We are not asking for what is not ours, but in line with the rule of law, constitutionalism, legitimacy, and decency, we call on the state government to present the appointment letter and third-class staff of office to Oba Kolawole without further delay.”

The group highlighted that preparations for the formal presentation were completed previously, but the ceremony was inexplicably halted and has yet to take place.

Fakayode urged the government to uphold justice and complete the process, stressing that the delay affects the community and the recognition of traditional authority in Ganmo.
