Oba Ladoja

By Adeola Badru

The Balogun of Ibadanland and member of the Olubadan-in-Council, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has issued a firm warning to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, urging him to steer clear of partisan politics and focus strictly on his traditional responsibilities for the good of Ibadan’s progress.

Addressing journalists at his palace in Sanyo, Ibadan yesterday, Oba Ajibola emphasised that the Olubadan stool is a revered traditional institution, not a political office, and must never be aligned with any political interest or agenda.

He revealed that he had reached out to respected elders to intervene, expressing confidence that the Olubadan would reconsider his stance in the interest of unity and stability.

The Balogun cautioned that any perceived involvement in partisan politics risks tarnishing the dignity and neutrality of the throne.

He also dismissed as unfounded reports suggesting that the Olubadan was plotting to impeach the state governor or that there were plans to depose the monarch, describing such claims as baseless rumours.

Clarifying the situation, Oba Ajibola said many of the circulating narratives were inaccurate and driven by misunderstanding, assuring the public that there was no cause for alarm.

He noted that any matters concerning the state leadership were being appropriately managed, with ongoing discussions aimed at resolving concerns without escalation.

He further stressed that several allegations in circulation had never been formally raised or discussed, urging the public to disregard unverified claims.

Turning to governance, the Balogun acknowledged the efforts of the state leadership, citing notable strides in education and other critical sectors.

He called for recognition of these achievements, urging residents to support initiatives that promote development.

Reflecting on his experience, he maintained that progress must be acknowledged and strengthened, while cautioning against actions that could inflame political tensions.

Oba Ajibola underscored the importance of neutrality in traditional leadership, stating that holders of such positions are expected to rise above political affiliations and serve the collective interest.

He warned that blending traditional authority with partisan politics could breed confusion and conflict, insisting that a clear distinction must be maintained between the two spheres.

Advocating dialogue, he said issues should be addressed at their root through understanding rather than confrontation, stressing that there was no crisis and that stability was firmly in place.

Reassuring the public, he affirmed that due process remained intact and that governance would continue in line with the rule of law.

He urged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on collective progress.

The Balogun appealed for restraint and unity, warning against the spread of misinformation and reiterating that safeguarding the neutrality and dignity of the traditional institution is vital to preserving peace in Ibadanland.
