OGUN: Police Begin Probe As Cult Clash Leaves One Dead
The Ogun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Monday, has commenced investigations to track down the killers of Bashiru Saidu.
Odutola said Saidu’s death was orchestrated by gunmen believed to be members of a rival cult group on Sunday night July 13, 2025, in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State.
Saidu, reportedly a member of the Eiye Confraternity, was shot dead by four assailants who arrived on two motorcycles.
According to her, the Atan-Ota Divisional Headquarters received a distress call at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday reporting that “four armed men, riding on two motorcycles, attacked and fatally shot one Bashiru Saidu, aged 44, along Bankole Onibukun Street, Atan-Ota.”
“The assailants immediately fled the scene after the attack.”
Police officers who responded to the alert found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
“His body was evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ilaro, for further examination,” Odutola said.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, deployed the command’s Anti-Cultism Unit to the area.
Odutola stated that the unit had been mandated to conduct a “thorough investigation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous act.”
She added that the command “strongly condemns all forms of cult-related violence and reiterates its commitment to rooting out cultism and restoring peace and security across the state.”
She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
