12 victims of human trafficking rescued in Kano

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Zonal Command, received 12 rescued victims of human trafficking from the Kano State Hisbah Board.

Zonal Commander, Abdullahi Babale, who confirmed the situation on Monday, stated that on August 31, the victims; who were all female aged between 15 and 50, were intercepted at the Karota Luxurious Park, Hotoro Western Bye-Pass, while they were being trafficked to Ghana and then eventually to Saudi Arabia, for suspected labour exploitation.

He added that the victims are indigenes of Kano, Katsina, Borno, Jigawa and Zamfara States, and were lured by the trafficker with promises of better jobs abroad.

During the operation, a suspect, Mohammed Saleh, 45, was arrested assured that the agency has intensified efforts to track down the entire network.

He commended the Kano State Hisbah Board and other officials of the state government for their partnership in ensuring that the vulnerable citizens are protected.

“All of the victims will receive counselling and rehabilitation before they are re-integrated back into their families,” he said.
