Official: Chuba Akpom Seals Loan Move to Ipswich Town
Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom has officially joined English Championship team Ipswich Town on a season-long loan from top-flight Dutch powerhouse Ajax.
After struggling to get consistent playing time in the Eredivisie, the 28-year-old, who joined Ajax from Middlesbrough last summer, will now try to find his form again in the second division of English football.
Following a successful 2022–2023 season at Middlesbrough, where he scored 28 goals and won the Championship Golden Boot, Akpom was transferred to Ajax. However, injuries and a lack of starts marred his debut season in the Netherlands.
After confirming the deal, Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna expressed his delight at securing the striker. “Chuba is a proven goalscorer at this level. We believe his experience and quality will be a huge asset as we push to achieve our targets this season,” McKenna said.
Akpom, who has also represented Arsenal, Hull City, and PAOK, said he was excited to join the promotion-chasing Tractor Boys. “It feels great to be back in English football. I’m here to work hard, score goals, and help the team,” he noted.
Akpom’s signing is anticipated to strengthen Ipswich Town’s attacking options in the second half of the season as they pursue promotion to the Premier League.
