In a bid to strengthen ties among public institutions in service delivery to Nigerians, the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission in Benue State, James Oche, has tasked public office holders in Benue State to work in the best interest of the people. Mr. Oche also said the Chief Medical Director of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, Dr. Stephen Hwande, is diligently achieving unprecedented transformation of the facility.
The Commissioner, who expressed his thoughts yesterday in Makurdi when he paid a visit to Dr. Hwande, reminisced on their old days at the Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School and said from the go, he knew Dr. Hwande as a man committed to excellence and expressed his Commission’s satisfaction with Dr. Hwande’s efforts at the BSUTH.
Oche maintained that the Ombudsman Commission, which he heads in Benue State, has a statutory role to oversee public institutions in order to ascertain the effectiveness of service delivery, and said his unscheduled short-notice visit to the BSUTH Chief Medical Director was to have an unbiased assessment of the medical facility.
Reacting, Dr. Hwande informed Rt. Hon. Oche that the hospital, under his directorship, has established complete facilities for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), which were fully functional at subsidized cost to members of the public. He said that the IVF facility was in addition to a fully automated VIP smart clinic manned by specialists.
Dr. Hwande said under his watch there has been a remodelling and refurbishment of the Radiology Department, maintenance of ultra-hygiene in the hospital, introduction of biometric attendance to minimise absenteeism among staff, as well as several other efforts.
High point of the visit was the walk to the project sites by Hon. Oche and his team of Management, led by Dr. Hwande and his team.
In company of the Honourable Federal Commissioner were: Terkura Kpaakpa (Acting Director of Investigation), Onyilo Lucy (Deputy Director of Investigation in charge of ICT/PRS), and Orhemba Akura Charles (Deputy Director of Investigation).
Others were: Head of Information and Publicity, Jeje Pretty (Assistant Director of Investigation in charge of Enforcement), Ati Albert (Chief Investigation Officer and Coordinator of Area Offices), Ogbu Austin (Assistant Chief State Counsel and Head of the Legal Unit), and Agbese Gabriel (Principal Information Officer).
Also with Hon. Oche were: Hon. Sunday Oche (Chief of Staff to the Hon. Commissioner) and Jeffrey Joseph (Special Adviser to the Hon. Commissioner).
On the Hospital Management Team accompanying Dr. Hwande were: Cynthia K. Orjime (Director of Administration), Mr. Titus Gbenyi (Deputy Director and Secretary, Top Management Committee), Mr. Ayila O. Nathaniel (Assistant Director of Administration), and Comr. Benjamin C. Ioryem (JOHECU Chairman).
