As her 65th birthday approaches, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has announced plans to dedicate the special day to God and a cause close to her heart – the completion of the National Library.
In a video message, she expressed her desire to mark the milestone birthday, September 21, 2025, with a quiet reflection and a focus on giving back to the nation.
Rather than hosting a lavish celebration, the First Lady has appealed to well-wishers to send contributions to the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund” instead of traditional birthday gifts.
“By the special grace of God, I will be turning 65 years old on the 21st of September 2025, and this happens to be a Sunday.
“This is why I have decided to dedicate the day to God for all his blessings in my life and have a quiet birthday,” she said.

“I wish to appeal to those who would like to send a birthday card, cakes, flowers, greetings in the newspapers or gifts. Please send the funds to the designated account for a special project close to my heart, among many others.
“The completion of the National Library – this would be the best birthday present I could receive.
“My love for education has informed my decision to dedicate my birthday to this worthy cause,” she added.
The fund, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to support the completion of the National Library project, which has been stalled for nearly two decades.
The National Library project, initiated in 1981 and launched in 2006, has faced significant delays due to funding challenges.
However, with the Tinubu administration’s renewed commitment to education, the project is set to resume. In 2022, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) announced that it had allocated ₦15bn as the first tranche for the project’s completion.
The First Lady’s spokesperson, Bukola Kukoyi, on X, also cautioned the public against fake accounts, emphasising that contributions should be made to a designated account.
