The Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Sokoto has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the chapel for the next three years.
In a keenly contested election held on Wednesday, Ankeli Emmanuel of National Accord Newspaper emerged as the newly elected chairman, defeating his opponent, Ismail Umar of Voice of Nigeria, with 18 votes to 9.
Other elected officials include Musa Ubandawaki of Vanguard Newspaper as Secretary, Umar Danladi Ado of Triumph Newspaper as Treasurer, Adamu Suleiman of Nation Newspaper as Vice Chairman, Olakunle Ma’aruf of Tribune Newspaper as Assistant Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed Goronyo of Aljazerah Newspaper as Financial Secretary, and Shafa’tu Suleiman of THE WHISTLER as Auditor.
In his post-election speech, Chairman Ankeli Emmanuel assured members of his commitment to improving their welfare and providing inclusive leadership.
He emphasised the importance of accountability, transparency, and adherence to the principles of the journalism profession.
The election, described as one of the most transparent in the chapel’s history, was conducted by the credentials committee, whose members were praised for their steadfastness.
