NSCDC Launches New Strategy To Combat Illegal Mining
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have unveiled their 2025 strategic operational plan aimed at enhancing field operations, improving regulatory compliance, and intensifying the fight against illegal mining activities.
The NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Babawale Afolabi, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
Afolabi noted key components of the plan to include strengthened collaboration with the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office to ensure more effective enforcement and prosecution of offenders.
The Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr. Obadiah Nkom, praised the officers professionalism, bravery, and resilience in the face of numerous challenges.
“We must acknowledge the commitment of the NSCDC Mining Marshals under the leadership of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni OFR, whose leadership has brought tremendous transformation to the mining industry as the Corps remains an indomitable force combating the scourge that undermines our nation’s economic potentials and environmental sustainability,” Nkom stated
The Squad Commander of the Mining Marshals, AC John O. Attah, confirmed that the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office has pledged full support toward the automation of services and system upgrades to enhance transparency and streamline license verification processes.
Attah reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to intensifying crackdowns on illegal miners and ensuring legitimate mineral titleholders can operate without interference.
He noted that the renewed collaboration with key stakeholders would help address environmental and community challenges posed by unauthorized mining activities nationwide.
He added that it will also safeguard Nigeria’s mineral resources, combat economic sabotage, and promote sustainable development within the mining sector.
