NSCDC Begins Public Awareness Against Vandalism Of National Assets
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, on Tuesday, commenced a sensitization walk aimed at educating the public on the importance of safeguarding national assets and infrastructure from vandalism.
The walk, led by the State Commandant, Mr Gbenga Agun, said the awareness campaign is a collective responsibility of citizens to protect public properties.
The walk commenced from the NSCDC headquarters on Blessed Avenue and covered major roads in Benin City, with officers distributing informational leaflets to shop owners, motorists, and pedestrians.
Speaking during the event, Agun explained that the initiative was designed to highlight the economic and social impacts of vandalism, as well as the role of citizens in mitigating it.
“It is to sensitise the people on the importance of guiding our properties, that is, critical national assets and infrastructure, from being vandalised,” Agun stated.
He further noted that vandalism could be either natural or man-made and acknowledged the economic challenges that might push some individuals toward destructive activities.
The Commandant urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or cases of vandalism to NSCDC offices located in local governments or outpost stations across the state.
Mr. Sule Muhammed, Head of the Department for Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, advocated for intelligence sharing to enable timely interventions.
“We need the public’s cooperation in providing actionable intelligence on any suspicious activities involving national assets,” Muhammed stressed.
The commandant noted that the sensitization walk is part of the NSCDC’s commitment to fostering public awareness and collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s critical assets, and a key step toward ensuring sustainable development and national security.
