No new government house – Kwara debunks construction rumours

The Kwara State Government has denied claims that it is building a new government house in Ilorin.

This was contained in a statement signed by Kunle Gbadeyan, Press Secretary
Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ilorin on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the clarification came on Tuesday during the official handing over of the site for the construction of new office buildings to the contractor, Mapet Construction Ltd., in the state capital.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, said the ongoing project is not a new Government House but additional office spaces meant to accommodate more civil and public servants.

“There is no plan to build a new Government House. What we are doing is constructing new office blocks to support effective service delivery. The rumour going around is fake,” Dr. Ogunsola said.

He explained that the new one-storey structure, located next to the Deputy Governor’s Office, will include several offices, a conference room, and other working facilities.

He added that the initiative is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to providing a more functional and decent working environment for government workers.

“These new offices will bridge existing gaps and meet the current trend of enhancing the smooth running of the state.

Dr. Ogunsola assured that the project will be properly monitored to ensure it is completed within the set one-year timeframe.

He urged the contractor to deliver quality work according to the approved specifications.
