No faction in Adamawa PDP, just aggrieved members – Party chairman

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Ailyu Shehu, has dismissed rumours of a faction within the party, saying there is no division, only a group of aggrieved individuals.

Speaking at a press conference in Yola, Shehu said the party remains united and strong, especially as it prepares for the upcoming by-election in Ganye State Constituency, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold on August 16, 2025.

“There is no breakaway faction in Adamawa PDP. What we have is just an association of aggrieved members. Their efforts will not divide the party.”

He added that the disagreements within the party are normal in any political group, but criticised those he said were causing confusion.

“Ironically, these aggrieved individuals are the same people who have benefitted the most from the PDP since 1998,” he said.

“But because of age and their unwillingness to give space to the younger generation, they now feel left out.”

Despite the internal wrangling, Shehu expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the by-election.

He said the party has already received its primary election materials and has started selling nomination forms to interested aspirants.

“We are ready, and our party has the popularity ahead of the upcoming election,” he stated.

“Adamawa is a PDP state from inception to now. The people have continued to trust our leadership because of our development record.”

Shehu urged members to remain united and work together for the party’s success.
