NNPC Ltd To Deliver Another 18MW Integrated Power Plant Next Year

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekeperikpe Ekpo has said that the delivery of 32 megawatts (MW) of the 50 MW Integrated Power Project sponsored by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) in Borno State aligns with the vision of the President Bola Tinubu administration to end energy poverty in Nigeria particularly in the North East region.

He gave the commendation during the inspection of the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project, in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Ekpo who was accompanied by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mele Kolo Kyari, and the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye said the Emergency Power Project aligns with the administration’s vision to deliver sustainable energy in the North East.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the NNPCL, Femi Soneye, the projectthe 32MW Simple said the remaining 18MW Combined Cycle phase is set to be operational by 2025.

“The MEPP driven by NNPC Ltd, is a cutting-edge gas-fired power plant aimed at providing stable and reliable electricity to Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.

“This initiative was launched in response to insurgent attacks that severely damaged the region’s power infrastructure, resulting in prolonged outages and significant challenges for residents,” Soneye explained.

He said the MEPP boasts an initial capacity of 32 megawatts (MW), with plans to expand to 50 MW.

He added, “This project, spearheaded by NNPC is set to transform electricity supply in the region, driving economic growth and significantly improving the quality of life for its residents.

“Furthermore, it aligns with Nigeria’s strategic goals of enhancing domestic gas utilization and bolstering the nation’s overall power generation capacity.”
