Nigerian - Army

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Captain Reuben Kovangiya, has confirmed that troops killed nine suspected terrorists in Borno State.

Kovangiya said the slain Boko Haram members had terrorised several communities across Konduga, Bama, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of the state.

The attack occurred barely a week after OPHK troops killed a top Boko Haram commander, Ibn Khalid, alongside 17 other terrorists during an operation in remote parts of Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area.

Kovangiya attributed the recent success to the troops’ aggressive patrols across the North East.

He said, “In line with the directives from the military high command, the troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), supported by the Air Component OPHK have sustained a series of offensive operations.”

He added, “These include ambushes and fighting patrols in the North East, leading to the neutralisation of 9 terrorists, recovery of AK-47 Rifles and PKT Machine guns in Konduga, Bama and Gwoza Local Government general areas.”

Kovangiya added that troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to plant mines on a bridge along the Marte–Dikwa road, recovering two heavy “Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other IED” equipment following a firefight.

“The sustained operations highlight OPHK’s determination to deny the insurgents freedom of action,” he stated.

He urged the public to support the military and other security agencies by providing credible information about suspicious activities or movements of Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists.
