Nigerian Nurses End Warning Strike On Minister’s Intervention

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its warning strike.

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammad Ali Pate, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday after a closed-door meeting in Abuja.

Pate said the decision followed agreements reached by the government and the union’s leadership.

However, union leaders declined to speak on the outcome of the meeting.

The nurses and midwives had embarked on a nationwide warning strike on July 29, stating the Federal Government’s failure to address their demands after a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 24.

The union is demanding the upward review of shift allowance, adjustment of uniform allowance, implementation of a separate salary structure for nurses, increased core duty allowance, mass employment of nurses, and the creation of a dedicated nursing department in the Federal Ministry of Health.

The strike, which affected public health institutions across the country, was scheduled to last until August 5.
