Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Päijät-Häme District Court on Monday slammed a six-year prison term on Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed Biafra agitator. Ekpa, who is based in Finland, was found guilty of terrorism-related charges.

2. The Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has described as “baseless” the claim by former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai that the current administration engaged in ransom payments or inducements to criminals. The ONSA, in a statement on Monday by its Director of Legal Services, Zakari Mijinyawa, said El-Rufai’s allegations “are not only false but also contradict verifiable facts on ground.”

3. Transportation Minister, Said Ahmed Alkali has assured Nigerians that the damaged portions of the Abuja-Kaduna tracks will be restored in the next 10 days. Some portions of the rail tracks and coaches were damaged last Tuesday when a Kaduna-bound train derailed at Asham Station.

4. Youths believed to be political thugs have attacked the convoy of the former minister of justice and attorney general, Abubakar Malami. The convoy was attacked few meters away from the former Minister’s residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

5. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has described those calling for the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office as “power-hungry politicians” who feel politically displaced. He spoke against the backdrop of comments of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-ERufai, that the President would not be re-elected in 2027.

6. Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested seven suspected student cultists with a human skill and a firearm. A statement by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, yesterday, said that the suspected members of the Ku Klux Klans, KKK, confraternity were, on August 28, 2025, caught, following a tip-off by a renounced member and student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

7. Former lawmaker and ex-chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Kabiru Marafa, on Monday vowed to cut one million votes from President Bola Tinubu’s tally in the 2027 presidential election. The former senator, who served as the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign in 2023, accused the President of adopting a “use-and-dump” style of politics.

8. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors on Monday issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and relevant agencies to meet its welfare demands, warning that its members would embark on a nationwide strike if nothing is done before the deadline. The doctors said the decision followed the outcome of its Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held virtually on Sunday.

9. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned Nigerians to hold the Federal Government responsible for an imminent shutdown of public universities, accusing it of deliberately pushing lecturers back to strike. ASUU’s Benin Zone, which comprises 10 universities, issued the warning on Monday at a press conference held at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State.

10. The Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) has urged the newly elected Local Government Chairmen to be selfless and focus on Grassroot development. Ibas gave the charge while swearing in chairmen-elect of the 23 LG Councils in Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday evening.
