APC Denies Attacking Malami’s Convoy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has distanced itself from the violent attack on the convoy of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, insisting the ruling party had no hand in the incident.

Malami, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleged that thugs loyal to the APC launched the assault in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, destroying about 10 vehicles and leaving several of his supporters injured.

He also noted that he was in the state capital strictly for condolence visits, not political activities.

However, APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, dismissed the accusations, describing them as “politically motivated blackmail.”

He maintained that the APC administration enjoys broad grassroots support and would not jeopardise the state’s peace for political reasons.

“Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted,” Assalafy said.

He further alleged that it was Malami’s security personnel who fired shots during the confrontation, a move he claimed heightened tensions and worsened the clash.

Despite denying involvement, the APC condemned the violence and urged security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly to prevent a recurrence.
