Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Vice-President Kashim Shettima has described President Bola Tinubu as a modest person who does not believe in extravagance. He said this at a book launch in Abuja, on Thursday. The VP claimed that he dresses better than the president, stressing that Tinubu has been wearing only one wristwatch.

2. Justice Akintayo Aluko of a Lagos Federal High Court, has ordered interim forfeiture of cash sum of $2,045 million linked to the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele. The judge also ordered interim forfeiture of the seven landed properties linked to the suspended CBN Governor.

3. The Northern States Governors’ Forum ( NSGF) has reiterated its commitment to come up with a comprehensive strategy to tackle the high rate of out-of-school children and the Almajiri phenomenon in the region through an enhanced partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

4. The Bida Emirate in Niger State on Thursday organised a prayer session for abundant rainfall and bumper harvests in the state and Nigeria in general. The residents of the emirate resorted to special prayers seeking divine intervention from God over an imminent drought due to the lack of steady rainfall in the area.

5. The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). NJC spokesman, Soji Oye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

6. Nigeria’s inflation figure has recorded its first decline in 19 months. According to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), inflation dropped to 33.40 percent in the month of July when compared to the 34.19% recorded in June.

7. The Federal Government has intensified monitoring and screening procedures at all entry points into the country in response to the Monkeypox outbreak. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday signed by his Special Adviser on Media and External Relations, Tashikalmah Hallah.

8. President Bola Tinubu on Thursday implored African leaders to make more strategic and deliberate efforts in addressing the exodus of skills and talent from Africa. These efforts, he said, include stemming tribalism, rewarding performance and reforming archaic judicial systems.

9. The Ekiti State Police Command said it has arraigned a 20-year-old cattle rearer, Mohamadu Bello, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly destroying farm produce valued at N3.8m belonging to four individuals. The police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court on Thursday that the defendant committed the offence on August 10 at Ido Ile Ekiti.

10. A Magistrate’s Court in Abuja has granted the application of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to keep Mr. Jimi Lawal, an ally of ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody for 14 days. The commission opted to detain Lawal because he could not meet his bail terms.
