The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is steadfast in its commitment to utilizing technical education to cultivate a skilled workforce essential for securing Nigeria’s airspace, territory, and populace.

This declaration was made by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, during the Graduation Ceremony of 432 officers, airmen, and airwomen from various military courses at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna on 25 September 2024.

In his address, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized AFIT’s pivotal role in bolstering the technical proficiency of the Service, underscoring that the graduates are integral to the NAF’s strategy to adapt to an evolving defence landscape.

He stated, “AFIT’s commitment to developing top-tier human capital equips graduates to tackle critical challenges, not only for Nigeria but also for allied African nations.”

He praised the Institute’s focus on practical-oriented learning and hands-on training, which aligns with the NAF’s ongoing fleet modernization efforts and reduces reliance on foreign training, thereby conserving national resources.

Highlighting the significance of the knowledge gained by the graduates, the CAS noted that it will be vital for maintaining the airworthiness of newly acquired aircraft.

He revealed that the NAF has recently acquired 12 new aircraft, with an additional 50 expected soon—an unprecedented development.

Air Marshal Abubakar also discussed the importance of predictive maintenance and Research and Development (R&D), urging graduates to contribute to indigenous military manufacturing advancements.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the NAF and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as well as to the AFIT Governing Council for its instrumental role in the Institute’s successes.

Air Vice Marshal Sani Rabe, Commandant of AFIT, reiterated the Institute’s dedication to providing high-quality technical and logistics training to meet the manpower needs of the NAF.

He also highlighted ongoing expansion efforts and the continuous improvement of training quality amidst challenges.

The ceremony celebrated AFIT’s legacy as a multidisciplinary centre of excellence since its establishment in 1977, dedicated to equipping the aviation, aerospace, and defence sectors with skilled personnel.

The event, attended by dignitaries and families, marked a proud moment for the NAF as it continues to enhance its technical capabilities through human capital development.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Nigerian military, pledging to use his constitutional powers to continue equipping, arming, and empowering the nation’s armed forces.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony of Course 32 participants at the National Defence College in Abuja recently, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the critical role of strategic leadership in addressing Nigeria’s complex security and development challenges.

Acknowledging the sacrifices and achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces in protecting the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens, Tinubu vowed to ensure that the military remains well-resourced and capable of fulfilling its duties.
