Nigerian Accused Of Defrauding 139 Australians $8m Arrested At Lagos Airport

A suspected online scammer, Osang Usie Otukpa, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after allegedly defrauding 139 Australians of AUD8m (eight million Australian dollars).

The anti-graft agency disclosed in a statement that the suspect was apprehended on arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, from the United States on Friday.

Otukpa allegedly deceived his victims by enticing them to invest in his shady cryptocurrency investment platform, Liquid Asset Group, or LAG, using five different aliases: Ford Thompson, Oscar Donald Tyler, Michael Haye, Jose Vitto, and Kristin Davidson.

Preliminary investigations indicated that his bank accounts received the proceeds of the suspected crimes via a global cryptocurrency exchange platform.

EFCC said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
