Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has named Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman the best player in the world ahead of their World Cup qualifying game against Rwanda.
Nigeria will play Rwanda in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday in a very important game for both countries.
Chelle hailed Lookman while defending his decision to include the Atalanta forward in his squad for the matches.
Lookman, who still holds the title of African Footballer of the Year, failed to complete a dream move to Inter Milan in the summer and has not played for the club or country since May 25, 2025.
Chelle told his pre-match press conference that Lookman remains the best player on the continent.
“About Lookman, I just want to say something. Can we do a list without the best player in Africa?” Chelle told reporters.
“It’s my job to decide if he can play – maybe five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes, fifty minutes, sixty minutes.
“I can’t imagine making a list without this guy. I trust him, I am so confident about him.”
Lookman was training individually before joining the Super Eagles camp.
