Nigeria Unaware Trump Deporting 3,690 Citizens – NiDCOM

The Nigerian government has expressed its readiness to receive citizens facing deportation in the U.S. based on US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.

Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the director of media and corporate affairs for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), stated this on Tuesday.

However, Balogun said that NiDCOM was not aware of Nigerians being processed for deportation from the US.

Balogun disclosed that the Federal Government has established an inter-agency committee that will handle the issue should any Nigerian be deported from the US.

He said, “The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US.”

Following his assumption as the 47th president of the United States, Trump ordered a clamp down on all undocumented immigrants in the US.

Reports state that about 1.4 million people including 3,690 Nigerians were facing deportation in the US, according to a document compiled by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department.
