Nigeria Target More International Success In Karate After Commonwealth Performance

Nigeria’s karate technical director Dave Jegede has revealed that the country will be targeting more international success in Karate after the impressive performance at the 11th Commonwealth Championship in South Africa.
The duo of Rita Ogene and Israel Jegede won bronze medals for Nigeria in the championship, Ogene competed in the women’s 68kg category, while Jegede made the country proud in the men’s -84kg.
Nigeria was represented by five athletes, two coaches, one referee, a board member, and the Secretary-General at the championship.
Jegede was impressed with Nigeria’s performance in the championship, and has promised that the athletes will continue to do their best to bring glory to the country.
He said: “Nigeria proved a point at this championship. Our athletes have shown they are capable of competing at the highest levels. This result sends a strong message that Nigeria can be a force to reckon with in international karate.
“Rita and Israel deserve commendation for their determination and skill. They ensured that Nigeria earned recognition and left with medals, which is a testament to their hard work and commitment.
“If we attend international championships regularly and continue to develop our athletes, there is no doubt Nigeria can become world beaters in the sport.
“Under the guidance of President Agara, the federation has continued to make significant strides, and we are seeing the fruits of that vision.”
Similarly, Karate Federation of Nigeria President Silas Agara also expressed his excitement with Nigeria’s outing in the championship, while promising consistent commitment to developing the sport across the country.
He said: “These medals are just the beginning of what we can achieve in karate. We have immense talent across Nigeria, and with proper support and exposure to international competitions, our athletes can compete with the best in the world.
“The federation is working to create more opportunities for our karatekas to participate in international tournaments. We believe regular exposure at this level is crucial for their development.”
Constance Abode (-61kg) and Kingsley Fineface (-67Kg) lost at their various bronze medal clashes.
