The Nigeria Police Force has announced the second edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.

Approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the initiative seeks to formally recognise officers who have displayed exceptional acts of bravery, professionalism, integrity, and dedication to service.

The award, now institutionalised, forms part of ongoing police reforms to boost morale, enhance welfare, and improve operational efficiency across the Force.

Organised in collaboration with Lenders Consult International, the 2025 ceremony will feature a wide range of award categories, reflecting key areas of police operations.

These include “Crime Buster of the Year; Detective of the Year; Community Policing Advocate of the Year; Police Sports Person of the Year; and Patrol Team of the Year.

Other categories are Traffic Officer of the Year, Area Commander of the Year, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Year, and special awards for gallantry and integrity.

The “Police Officer of the Year” award, Agbetokun said, will remain the most prestigious honour of the event, the statement by Force Police Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed.

In addition to operational categories, the IGP Special Recognition Awards will spotlight officers who have excelled in specialised areas such as public relations, legal practice, and medical services.

Muyiwa said, “Nominations were submitted from all police formations — including Force Headquarters, Zonal Commands, State Commands, Area Commands, and Divisional Headquarters.

“A collation committee comprising senior police officers and a representative from Lenders Consult International reviewed the submissions. The final decisions were made by the Force Management Team led by the IGP after what was described as “extensive deliberations.

“This thorough process ensured credibility, transparency, and shielded the awards from undue influence,” the statement noted.
