IGP Redeploys Force PRO After Promotion To Deputy Commissioner
The Nigeria Police Force has promoted former Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and redeployed him as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command.
THE WHISTLER gathered that the development was part of routine administrative procedures designed to strengthen operational leadership across the country.
It came after the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved his elevation.
His redeployment to Delta was described by police sources as a “strategic posting,” Delta is considered one of Nigeria’s most operationally sensitive and security-challenged states.
Senior police sources dismissed the reports claiming Adejobi was “controversially removed” from his spokesperson role as misleading, and stressed that his elevation was neither punitive nor political.
“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” a senior officer at the Force Headquarters told THE WHISTLER.
As DCP Operations, Adejobi will be tasked with coordinating tactical deployments, supervising field operations, and leading anti-crime strategies across Delta State.
His portfolio also includes tackling violent crimes, curbing communal clashes, managing crisis response, and enhancing police-community relations in a region considered a flashpoint in Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
Delta State has over the years witnessed complex security threats ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, and oil theft to communal disputes. His appointment is expected to bring both operational rigour and improved community trust, leveraging his background in communication and policing reforms.
Adejobi previously served in various command and staff capacities.
“With his wealth of experience in public communication, operational management, and community policing, DCP Adejobi’s new role is not only a promotion in rank but also a posting to a more strategic and sensitive position,” another officer told THE WHISTLER.
