Nigeria Police Disown Viral Recruitment Notice

The Nigeria Police Force has distanced itself from a viral recruitment notice making the rounds on social media.

It described it as fake and warned Nigerians not to fall victim to fraudsters.

The notice, titled “Nigeria Police Force Recruitment Exercise 2025”, had invited applications from SSCE, OND, HND and B.Sc. holders across various disciplines, outlining “general requirements” and an “application procedure” purportedly for an exercise scheduled to begin on September 22, 2025.

According to the fake advert, applicants were expected to be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN), and meet specific age requirements — between 18 and 25 years for SSCE and OND holders and not more than 28 years for HND or B.Sc. holders.

It further said eligible candidates must be physically and mentally fit, have a minimum height of 1.67 metres for males and 1.64 metres for females, and obtain at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.

It directed candidates to apply via a supposed police recruitment portal beginning September 23, 2025, with requirements such as scanned certificates, a guarantor’s declaration, a certificate of origin and a birth certificate.

However, the police force, in a post via its verified X handle on Thursday, described the notice as “fake”, stressing that the publication did not emanate from its management.

Similarly, the Police Service Commission (PSC) reiterated that no recruitment exercise has been announced for 2025.

In a statement issued on August 30, PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani dismissed the online advertorials as fictitious and diversionary.

“The Commission has repeatedly urged young Nigerians eager to join the Force to be patient and await the official process. The fake notices in circulation bear no resemblance to the Commission’s official communication,” Ani said.

The PSC further cautioned prospective applicants against patronising fraudulent portals and assured them that any genuine recruitment exercise would be formally announced through official channels.
