Niger State To Probe Officials Extorting Workers For Promotions
The Niger State Government is set to probe allegations of extortion of civil servants seeking promotion.
In a letter sighted by THE WHISTLER, and signed by the Commissioner of Communication Technology and Digital Economy, Suleiman Isha, the ministry said it received petitions that some individuals were extortion workers for promotion.
The letter, which was copied to the secretary to the state government and chairman of Organized Labour, reads, “The ministry has received allegations that certain individuals are soliciting money or other forms of gratification before performing their official duties, particularly in payroll functions such as effecting promotions.”
“The general public is hereby urged to submit petitions with supporting evidence to the office of the Honourable Commissioner. Acceptable evidence may include screenshots of chats, transactions, receipts, or sworn affidavits.
“All submissions should also be copied to the office of the Secretary to the State Government and the chairman, Organized Labour, Niger State. Petitions must be submitted in sealed envelopes clearly marked confidential.”
