The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has flagged off the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI 2) in Abia State.

RHEI is a federal government initiative aimed at equipping unemployed Nigerians with demand-driven skills.

The event took place in Umuahia on Thursday, with trainees drawn from across the state’s 8,809 electoral wards.

The Director General, Silas Ali Agara, was represented by the State Coordinator of NDE in Abia State, Mrs Tessy Wachukwu.

According to the Director-General, the second phase of RHEI will train 41,307 persons in over 30 different skills, including vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, ICT, and public works sector activities.

“We have improved and digitised our processes through a robust online registration portal, making our processes more transparent, fair, and equitable.

“A total of 14,457 beneficiaries are expected to be resettled with starter packs to help them establish themselves in their chosen fields.

The trainees were drawn from the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a minimum of 4 persons from each electoral ward,” he stated.

Speaking to the trainees, Wachukwu advised them to take the training seriously, stating that “the programme will be monitored seriously and only the serious ones with 100 per cent attendance will be given loans by the federal government at the end of the training.”

The Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Zach Nwaogbe, also delivered a seminar on drug and substance abuse, advising the trainees to “say no to drugs”.

Wachukwu also congratulated the selected trainees and urged them to make the most of this opportunity.

“That you have made it this far among many applicants speaks to your potential and interest in gaining skills that can transform your future,” she said.

The NDE remains committed to empowering unemployed Nigerians with demand-driven skills, despite limited budgetary resources.

The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative aligns with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

THE WHISTLER also reports that the first phase of RHEI successfully trained 32,692 unskilled and unemployed Nigerians, with 5,532 beneficiaries resettled with loans and starter packs.

The second phase is expected to further equip participants with skills to enhance their employability, foster entrepreneurial mindsets, and improve livelihoods.
