NBS Allocates N1.26bn for Cybersecurity, Surveys Next Year

…Labour Force Survey Gets N500m

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has earmarked N1.26bn in its 2025 budget to strengthen cybersecurity, conduct 20 surveys, and enhance operational efficiency.

The 2025 budget proposal for “Capacity Building on Cybersecurity and Data Centre Management” outlines plans to modernize infrastructure and improve service delivery.

The bureau has proposed a total expenditure of N9.85bn for 2025, with personnel costs accounting for 66.83 per cent, amounting to N6.65bn.

The N1.26bn set aside for 21 operational projects represents 12.66 per cent of the total 2025 budget.

According to the breakdown of the budget, the Labour Force Survey has been allocated N500m, while N80m has been designated for Consumer Price Index Production, a critical indicator of inflation.

The bureau has allocated N60m for the compilation of Quarterly GDP by Production, Expenditure, and Income, and N36m for the Quarterly Production of Foreign Trade in Goods and Trade Intensity Index.

The Producer Price Index Production, which tracks fluctuations in the prices of goods and services at the producer level, will receive an allocation of N40m.

Additionally, N55m has been set aside for the National Agricultural Sample Survey, N20m for the Compilation of Tourism, Education, Health, and Natural Resources Satellite Accounts, N50m for Tracking the Implementation of the 8-Point Agenda, and N50m for the System of Administrative Statistics Reports.

The bureau plans to execute the National Integrated Survey of Establishment with an allocation of N60m, while N45m has been allocated for Reform and Service Delivery Capacity Building. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Tracking will receive N35m, and the Revision of the Statistics Act has been allocated N30m.

The bureau allocated N25m each for Financial Management Capacity Building and Sustainable Procurement Methods Capacity Building, while N10m has been set aside for developing capacity in creating infographics and statistical reports.

It would be recalled that THE WHISTLER previously reported that the NBS urged the public to disregard the information on its website on December 18, 2024, after the site was hijacked.

The bureau stated that it aims to prevent such breaches in the future, as N35m has been earmarked for cybersecurity training.

The Waste Generated Statistics Report in Nigeria is to gulp N15m, while the NBS Annual Report and Quarterly Progress Reports will receive N10m.

The Annual Abstract of Statistics will receive N15m, while the Production of Demographic Statistics Bulletin has been allocated N9m.
