Nasarawa Govt, FRSC Unite To Reduce Road Accidents
The Nasarawa State government and the Federal Road Safety Commission have agreed to partner towards the reduction of road mishaps across the state.
The agreement was arrived at when Gov Abdullahi Sule received a delegation of FRSC officials, led by the Nasarawa Sector Commander, CC Comfort Asom, in the Government House, Lafia, on Wednesday.
The sector commander appreciated the cordial relationship between the government of Nasarawa State and the FRSC and requested the collaboration of the state in constituting a task force to tackle the menace of overloading by vehicles in the state.
She said, “We are also seeking the state collaboration to ensure that all vehicles are properly registered and drivers obtain appropriate licences, which will in turn generate revenue for the state.”
She also explained the importance of the newly introduced National Community for Post-Crash Care Initiative, including quickening accident response time and providing first-aid services to crash victims before the arrival of FRSC operatives. She therefore solicited the assistance of the state to train and equip community volunteers to make the initiative a success.
“As the patron of Special Marshals in the state, we seek the active involvement of Your Excellency in the creation of public awareness and other traffic control activities towards clamping down various traffic infractions in the state,” she said.
Responding, Gov Sule pledged to render all necessary support towards the eradication of road traffic mishaps in the state. He further implored the sector commander to present a proposal for the implementation of the scheme.
“I also charge the FRSC team to commence the process of removing tricycles from the highways in the state to reduce road mishaps,” he said, adding, “we are ready to back the initiative with relevant laws if need be.”
