The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has pledged stronger collaboration with the Daurama Foundation to address the vulnerabilities of women and girls that expose them to exploitation and trafficking.

The commitment was made during the graduation ceremony of 39 young women from the Samira Buhari Mentorship Programme (SBMP), a 12-week initiative designed to build skills in leadership, career development, and digital literacy.

While speaking the Director of Counselling and Rehabilitation of NAPTIP’s Angela Agbayekhai, who represented the Director-General of the agency lauded the programme’s contribution to women’s empowerment, adding that its objectives aligned with national strategies to safeguard women and girls from exploitation.

“Across our communities, girls and women face vulnerabilities that can echo across generations. What SBMP is doing is taking young women off the margins and equipping them for leadership which is timely and essential. NAPTIP stands ready to partner so this momentum translates into safer, stronger futures”

“This is far more than a graduation ceremony; it is a celebration of courage and possibility. When we invest in women, we transform communities, economies, and nations. Women’s voices belong at the table, at the helm, and at the heart of progress,” she said.

In her remark, the founder of the initiative Dr. Samira Buhari said that the initiative is a platform to instill confidence and leadership among young women.

She said that the mentorship programme has trained participants in leadership, entrepreneurship, public speaking, business development, and digital skills, while also offering mock interviews, one-on-one coaching, and networking opportunities

As part of the closing ceremony, outstanding participants were recognised with cash prizes and digital devices to support their career and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Fatima Shema, a participant , credited the programme for boosting her confidence and career prospects.

“SBMP gave me confidence and direction. The day after our mock interviews, I passed a real interview and got the job. I have found my voice, and I am building a creative enterprise that creates opportunities for other women,” she said.

Responding to that, The Daurama Foundation said the mentorship scheme will continue to serve as a platform for nurturing women leaders, bridging gender inequality, and promoting economic empowerment across communities.

Facilitators and partner organisations, including NAPTIP, the Dorothy Njemanze Foundation, and the FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat, were also recognised for their contributions to the programme’s success.
