Musk’s X Faces $2.5B AI Startup in Court Over Antitrust

Elon Musk’s X Set to Pay $418,000 Fine After Losing Court Fight In Australia Over Anti-child Abuse

Eliza Labs has taken Elon Musk’s X Corp. to court, accusing the social media giant of abusing its market dominance and misusing insider knowledge to develop competing products.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco by Eliza Labs and its founder, Shaw Walters, alleges that X unfairly shut down the company’s and Walters’ accounts after extracting valuable insights from its technology. According to the complaint, X used the information to design rival AI tools before abruptly cutting off Eliza Labs’ access.

Court filings further claim that X pressured the startup to purchase a costly “Enterprise License” or “Enterprise API,” priced at $50,000 per month or $600,000 annually. After Eliza Labs refused, the company says X retaliated by suspending its accounts to suppress competition. The lawsuit describes the move as deliberate and predatory, aimed at monetising Eliza Labs’ open-source innovations, particularly its elizaOS platform for AI agents.

Eliza Labs, which has a reported valuation of $2.5 billion, is best known for elizaOS and its no-code AI agent builder, launched in April. The tool allows users to create sophisticated AI systems without writing software, giving the company a competitive edge in the fast-growing artificial intelligence market.

The case underscores wider debates over competition in the tech sector, where dominant platforms often face scrutiny over how they treat smaller innovators. If successful, the lawsuit could reshape the rules of engagement between AI startups and social media firms.

Musk’s company has faced similar disputes in recent months. On August 24, Xai, an Ethereum-based gaming project, filed suit against Musk’s xAI, alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. Musk is also embroiled in a long-running legal battle with OpenAI, which he co-founded with Sam Altman. In April, Altman accused Musk of trying to sabotage the organisation, while Musk countersued, claiming OpenAI had abandoned its non-profit mission. That case is scheduled to go to trial in 2026, highlighting a growing rift between leading AI players.

The Eliza Labs lawsuit adds to the mounting legal challenges facing Musk’s tech empire, spotlighting the tensions between innovation, intellectual property, and corporate dominance in the evolving AI landscape.
