The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday visited Minna, Niger State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state following the devastating flood that displaced thousands in the Mokwa area.

During the visit, Governor Zulum donated N300m to victims in the affected communities of Tiffin Madza and Agwa Hausawa in Mokwa Local Government Area.

Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, confirmed the donation in a statement on Tuesday.

He said Governor Zulum made the announcement while leading a delegation from Borno State on a sympathy visit to the Niger State Government House in Minna.

Governor Zulum explained that the donation is aimed at supporting the Niger State Government’s efforts in responding to the humanitarian crisis caused by the flood.

While expressing his condolences, Zulum lamented the tragic loss of lives and livelihoods caused by the flood and emphasised the urgent need for collective action by subnational governments to address the growing impact of climate change.

He also called on the federal government to establish a more effective and coordinated framework for disaster response and climate resilience.

In his remarks, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago thanked Governor Zulum for the generous donation and solidarity, describing the gesture as timely and deeply appreciated.

Governor Bago acknowledged the strong bond between Borno and Niger States and praised Zulum’s leadership qualities, including his resilience, compassion, and proactive governance.

He assured that the funds would be judiciously utilised to assist affected communities and reiterated ongoing advocacy efforts urging residents to avoid settling along coastlines to prevent future disasters.
