Melaye Lashes On APC, Says Party Panicking Because Of ADC’s Growing Popularity

Senator Dino Melaye, a former lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has lashed out at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of being desperate to undermine the country’s democratic system, news.ng reports.

Melaye, who appeared on Channels Television on Thursday morning, claimed that the APC was not comfortable with the level of popularity and acceptability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has become an opposition party to be reckoned with.

“The APC have become so desperate. The APC have seen that ADC is the only opposition we have in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to challenge them, and they’ve seen an exodus of movements of people from various political parties into ADC,” he said.

Melaye, known for his unapologetic stance, questioned why the ruling party was panicking despite having 32 governors.

He stated, “And I don’t, me personally, I’m shocked why they are panicked. You said you have 32 governors. You have taken over every, then why are you afraid? So, in a nutshell, it is not about ADC.”

He alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to perpetuate himself in power without an election, adding that the President’s phrase, ‘It is my turn,’ is undemocratic.

He said, “No democrat will tell you it is my turn because it’s not a monarchical system of government. It’s not a chieftaincy title. You know? In a democracy, there is no turn.

“The man who said, grab it, take it, and run away with it. Is that a democratic language? That’s a mafia. It’s a mafia language.

“Only a mafia will talk like that. No democrat will talk like that. So, the tendency of not being a democrat was manifested early enough, but Nigeria did not say it.”

He, therefore, warned that there is an attempt by the APC to impose a one-party system, claiming the President is a totalitarian.

“Tinubu is a totalitarian. And what they are trying to do is to stifle power by force. They want a one-party state. They don’t want election,” he alleged.

President Bola Tinubu wants to be coronated; he doesn’t want an election. He wants us to practise a monarchical system of government.
