Marseille land Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri on loan with €4m appearance-based fee

English midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is set to join Olympique Marseille on a loan deal running until June 2026.
According to reports, Marseille will cover Nwaneri’s wages and pay a loan fee of around €4 million, structured based on his appearances for the club.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta reportedly discussed the move with Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille’s coach, to align on plans for the young midfielder’s development.
The loan agreement includes no option to buy, meaning Nwaneri is expected to return to Arsenal at the end of the loan period.
Nwaneri, regarded as one of England’s brightest young talents, will gain valuable first-team experience in Ligue 1 during his stint in France.
Marseille currently sit mid-table in Ligue 1 and are looking to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the campaign.
The move represents a strategic step for Nwaneri as he continues his progression at the senior level while remaining tied to Arsenal’s long-term plans.
