Man Who Rammed Into Crowd At Liverpool Trophy Parade Pleads Not Guilty

Paul Doyle, the man accused of driving into a crowd at Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade, has pleaded not guilty to all 31 charges brought against him.

The 53-year-old, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, allegedly drove a Ford Galaxy into fans leaving the waterfront after the club’s title celebrations on May 26, injuring more than 134 people, with victims ranging in age from six months to 77 years old.

Doyle was initially facing seven charges, but prosecutors on August 14, expanded the charges to 31, adding 24 fresh counts that included multiple allegations of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as wounding and violent conduct.

Several of the charges relate to children injured during the incident.

At an earlier hearing, prosecutors said two babies were among those included in the new charges.

Doyle’s lawyer argued his client had not had sufficient time to review fresh witness statements or examine CCTV and other evidence, noting a prison laptop request had been pending for two months.

The accused appeared for the hearing by video link from prison, where he confirmed his pleas.

He was remanded in custody and is due to stand trial on November 24 at Liverpool Crown Court.
