Man United Dent Villa to Move to Third as Spurs Steal Draw from Liverpool

Michael Carrick has proved beyond every reasonable doubt why the Manchester United board should offer him a long-term contract after beating Aston Villa 3–1 at the iconic Old Trafford stadium on Sunday afternoon, news.ng reports.
Casemiro (53′), Matheus Cunha (71′) and Benjamin Sesko (81′) were on target for United, denting Villa’s Champions League qualification hopes momentarily.
However, the visitors managed to find the back of the net in the 64th minute courtesy of Ross Barkley.
United are currently in third position with 54 points.
Sunday’s victory for United means Carrick has now gone nine matches without a defeat since taking on the interim role on January 13, 2026 — with eight wins and a draw.
United legend Wayne Rooney, after the game, urged the club’s board to consider giving Carrick a long-term contract.
Rooney said, “Michael Carrick should get the job, 100%.
“I knew this was going to happen with Michael Carrick. I know him very well… I know his character, his personality.
“We have seen the players play with more quality, more together as a team, and they look like a very strong team.
“For me, why would you change? Carrick has got the best winning percentage of any Manchester United manager after that many games. For me, he has to get the job.”
Elsewhere, Liverpool continued their lacklustre performance after Dominik Szoboszlai found the back of the net in the 18th minute, but the Reds, who failed to double their lead, were punished in the dying minutes as Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison levelled the game to make it 1–1 in the 90th minute.
Liverpool remain fifth on the table with 49 points, while Spurs occupy 16th place with 30 points.
