Makinde assures corps members of enabling environment and security in Oyo

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his commitment to creating an enabling environment where young people can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the society.

The governor stated this on Monday during the opening of the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Iseyin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Makinde was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke.

He charged the corps members to integrate with members of their host communities by learning, appreciating, and respecting their cultures and traditions.

Makinde said that his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote empowerment, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and innovation among youths.

“Here in Oyo State, we believe strongly in the capacity of young people to transform society.

“We believe that when youths are empowered with the right opportunities, guidance, and support, they become catalysts for development and agents of positive change.

“I urge you to approach this service year with discipline, dedication, and an open mind. Use this opportunity to learn beyond the walls of the classroom.

“Build meaningful relationships. Respect the people and communities you will serve and contribute positively wherever you find yourselves.

“Do not see this service year as a mere compulsory programme. See it as a training ground for leadership and nation-building.

“You are the generation that can promote peace, unity, and progress. Do not allow negativity to rob you of your dreams or confidence in this country.

“Nigeria still holds enormous opportunities for those who are prepared, focused, and determined,” he said.

The governor also commended the management and officials of the NYSC for their tireless efforts in sustaining the objectives of the scheme over the years.

Also, the NYSC coordinator in the state, Mr Kayode Peters, charged the corps members to approach their service year with a sense of responsibility, commitment, and selflessness.

He advised the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities, obey instructions, and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations.

“The orientation course serves as the foundation upon which a successful and rewarding service year is built.

“I therefore urge you to approach every aspect of the programme with seriousness, enthusiasm, discipline, and an open mind.

“The lessons you learn, the relationships you build, and the experiences you gain here will not only prepare you for a successful service year but also empower you to contribute meaningfully to the realisation of a stronger, more united, peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.

“The experiences you acquire during your service year have the potential to shape your future, broaden your horizons, and strengthen your commitment to national development and selfless service,” he said.

NAN reports that the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Muniru Olagunju, administered the Oath of Allegiance to 3,938 corps members. (NAN)
