Mainpower, EFCC Move Against Sabotage In Enugu

The Managing Director of Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), Enugu, Dr Ernest Mupwaya, has solicited the support of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in tackling economic sabotage confronting the company.

Mr Mupwaya stated this when he visited the Acting Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Command of EFFC, Mr Aisha Abubakar, at the Commission’s Command headquarters in Enugu.

The visit was part of Mainpower’s efforts to strengthen collaboration and build strategic partnerships with critical stakeholders within its franchise area.

Dr Mupwaya, during the interface, commended EFCC for its efforts in the fight against economic crimes. He also highlighted some of the challenges confronting the company to include “habitual non-payment of electricity bills, energy theft, metre bypass, illegal connections to the network, and vandalism”.

He solicited the Commission’s support in addressing these issues which he described “as economic sabotage”. He also commended Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) for the improved service quality in Enugu and its prompt response to fault clearing.

Responding, the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC assured the Mainpower team of the Commission’s readiness to collaborate in tackling the challenges facing the company, especially those relating to economic sabotage.

She also thanked Mainpower for the improvement in service delivery across the state and urged the company not to relent in sustaining the feat.

THE WHISTLER reports that Dr Mupwaya was accompanied on the visit by the Chief Commercial Officer, Engr Ikenna Akabogu; Chief Technical Officer, Engr Chimezie Chukwu, and Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh.

Mainpower is the subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) responsible for electricity distribution within Enugu State.
