Lookman Scores Brace As Atalanta Defeat Empoli 5-0
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman delivered an impressive performance to lead Atalanta to a 5-0 win over Empoli in a 2024-25 Serie A encounter.
The reigning African footballer of the year scored a brace, and recorded an assist to lead his club to a comprehensive victory to boost their title hopes.
It was Lookman’s first match for Atalanta after Gian Gasperini criticised him for missing a penalty in the 3-1 to Club Brugge.
Empoli’s Emmanuel Gyasi diverted into his own net in the 27th minute to give Atalanta a 1-0 lead.
Mateo Retegui made it 2-0 before Lookman assisted him to make it 3-0.
The Italian forward returned the favour by assisting Lookman for his first goal in the 43rd minute.
The former Leipzig forward made it 4-0 in the 55th minute with a powerful effort from Marten de Roon”s pass.
Zappacosta added the fifth goal in the 74th minute to hand Atalanta the maximum points.
Lookman has now scored three goals in two games since returning from injury.
He has now scored 12 goals, and recorded five assists in 20 Serie A matches for Atalanta this season.
The victory takes Atalanta’s tally to 54 points in third place, three points behind table-toppers Inter Milan.
Atalanta will be back in Serie A action against Venezia on Saturday.
